Rotary Club gives Scholarship to University of Nairobi Students

Rotary Club of Nairobi cheque donation

The Rotary Club of Nairobi have today issued a cheque to support bright and needy students from the University of Nairobi College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Club donated a cheque of Kshs. 175,000.  

Speaking during the event, the University of Nairobi Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi expressed her gratitude to the Rotary Club for supporting bright and needy students and giving them a chance to pursue higher education. She encouraged Rotary Club officials to also consider endowment fund, where the money will be invested over a long period of time and it’s only the returns that will be used to support many students.

Prof. Peter Mbithi, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Nairobi congratulated the Rotary Club led, by the Club President, Dr. David Githiaga, for supporting his Alma matter and enabling students achieve credible quality education.

Rotary Club of Nairobi President, Dr. David Githiaga, encouraged other organizations and the alumni to come forward and support the students. He noted that in the developed countries, it is the alumni who are at the forefront in supporting their universities upon graduation.

Only five students were successful in getting the highly competitive scholarship. More students were however encouraged to apply for the yearly scholarship program. The students were from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences pursuing degrees in Law, Economics and Commerce.

Also present during the event were: Prof. Enos Njeru, Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mr. B. M. Waweru, Acting Registrar, Academics Department and Mr. Peter Muturi, Public Relations Manager.
