University of Nairobi Travelling Theatre bags 5 trophies.

The University of Nairobi Travelling theatre has bagged five trophies in the just concluded Kenya  National Drama and Film Festivals. The trophies were presented to the Vice-Chancellor, yesterday, September, 12, 2017 at the Vice-Chancellors Boardroom.

Led by Prof. Enos Njeru, the Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the University of Nairobi Travelling Theatre expressed their desire to make the University of Nairobi a ‘hub of film’. We need international film festivals that resonates worldwide. The theatre group and the literature department has among other things been at the forefront in the development of drama and film curriculum in the country. They as well mentor secondary schools in the country in the development of drama and film.

On his part, Prof. Peter Mbithi, the Vice-Chancellor, pledged to support the students in their endevours to produce high quality films and showcase quality plays. He urged the students to be entrepreneurs and to nurture their talents, create films and create businesses out of them. “The university must influence society and become relevant,” he said. Prof. Mbithi as well urged to students to take their academic endevours seriously and together with the film talents, they can spew abundant blessings to the society.

“Ideas precede resources. Put your ideas, dreams and intellect together and you will definitely get the funding,” advised Prof. Mbithi who promised to bring in other departments like the Advancement Office to help the team in getting the funding to jumpstart their film start-up businesses.  

The meeting was also attended by Prof. Hellen Mwanzi, Professor of Literature, Tom Odhiambo, Administrative Director, Matsumi Odari, Chair, Department of Literature among other staff members.
