The University Chapter of the Kenya Red Cross Society that has been ranked top nationaly for the last three consecutive years, today, May, 20, 2015 visited the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter M. F. Mbithi and requested for facilitation to be undergo training on First-Aid to enable them respond to emergencies more efficiently.
Speaking during the event, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the work of the Red Cross is very noble as they go out of their way to serve the students and the public at large. Prof. Mbithi noted that disaster response and first-aid is a big thing for the University Management and in that regard they are working on a security program that will see the entire university staff and students sensitized on security issues and how to respond in case of attacks. In such trainings, the Vice-Chancellor noted that Red Cross members will play a key role.
He reminded the leadership of the Red Cross that student mentorship is key in his transformation agenda. He challenged the Red Cross student leaders to be a good example to the entire student fraternity.
The Red Cross, University of Nairobi Chapter will also be involved in University of Nairobi functions like graduation ceremonies among others. The Vice-Chancellor offered to give the chapter his full support. Among the things the chapter needed include office space for meetings, storage space for equipment, branding during functions, website for the organization, high-end training on first-aid and disaster response.
Registrar Academic Affairs, Mr. B. M. Waweru, who is the Patron of the University Chapter of the Kenya Red Cross commended the current leadership for the good performance. “This team has purpose for leadership. They are focused and so far the University of Nairobi has the best University Chapter in Kenya, “he said.
The University Of Nairobi Red Cross Society Of Kenya has been very active in responding to insecurity incidences that have happened in the recent past including the Garrissa attacks, Westage terror attacks, among others.
