The University of Nairobi (UoN) and the Italian Cultural Institute in Nairobi have entered into talks on possible collaboration.
This was revealed today, May 25, 2015, when the Director, Italian Cultural Institute in Nairobi, Ms. Francesa Cheiso paid a courtesy call on the Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi.
Among the areas explored include the sponsorship of academic chairs in the fields of promotion of Italian culture, art, architecture, archaeology, agriculture and veterinary sciences. In addition, the two discussed possibilities of setting up a students and staff exchange programme.
Speaking during the meeting, Ms. Cheiso extended an invitation to the University to be part of the team that will look at the restoration and rehabilitation of historical buildings in Kenya. To this end, the Institute is looking to host a round table meeting that will bring together experts in architecture and archaeology.
On his part, Prof. Mbithi said that the establishment of an academic chair in architecture as well as agriculture and veterinary sciences sponsored by the Italian Cultural Institute is indeed a welcomed development. Prof. Mbithi noted that internationalization of its academic programmes is a key agenda for the University.
