University of Nairobi Researchers will have an easy time in conducting their research following the launch of the Grant Management Information System by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter M. F. Mbithi at the Central Catering Unit today February, 24, 2016.
Speaking during the launch, Prof. Mbithi noted that the system will bring efficiency in the research process and urged the researchers to adopt it henceforth. The Vice-Chancellor, urged the development team from the ICT to incorporate other modules like the procurement process.
"Let's work together for a common purpose", he said. He noted that the launch of the grants system goes hand in hand with his promise during his installation as the seventh Vice-Chancellor, when he stated that the university would invest heavily in technology to help the university achieve efficient service delivery.
Prof. Machoki M'Imunya, revealed that the University of Washington, Malawi University, ICIPE and other University stakeholders were key to the development and the successful launch of the grant system as they offered financial assistance and helped in the benchmarking process.
ICTC Director, Mr. Ibrahim Otieno noted that the system will meet its objectives, being ; providing support to researchers, tracking progress of grants, projects and research outputs, help the university increase the number of successful proposals, facilitate internal and external reporting of grants and streamline the research process.
Prof. Henry Mutoro, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, noted that the system will automate the manual research process, help in tracking the research output and help the management in making decisions.
The system launch was attended by University Management Board, Deans and Directors, Heads of Departments and University Researchers.
