The University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter M. F. Mbithi joined other stakeholders from the Health Sector in marking the World Blood Donation Day, at the Great Court on June, 14, 2016.
Chief Guest Dr. Benson Kioko, Ag. Director, Medical Services, urged students, staff and the general public to volunteer freely and donate blood, so that more lives can be saved.
Speaking during the event, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the University has strong links and collaboration with the Ministry of Health through the Medical School, College of Health Sciences. He urged the students to join others in donating blood to boost the blood bank.
On her part, Dr. Margaret Oduor, Director, Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service appreciated all the donors who have been faithful in donating blood. She noted that most donors are aged 18-25 years and urged adults to donate more. She took the opportunity to congratulate previous donors and handed out awards and certificates to the various individuals and institutions that have supported the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service.
