The University of Nairobi, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, held a media briefing on the 2nd annual Nairobi Innovation Week today, July 26th, 2016 at the Vice-Chancellors Parlour. This year’s Innovation week is set to take place on 1st-5th August, 2016.
During the media briefing, Prof. Peter Mbithi, said that the Innovation week expects over 1500 people who have registered through the online portal; http://innovationweek.co.ke/register/
The Innovation Week has attracted five strategic partners; Ministry of Education, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, Ministry of ICT,UNICEF and KEPSA. These partners are contributing both funding and in kind. Their contributions will be key in helping the business start-ups grow in leaps and bounds.
The corporate are not left behind as Barclays Bank Kenya, Safaricom Limited, and UoN Alumni are among the partners that presented cheques of Kshs. 3 Million, 1Million and 500,000 respectively towards the innovation week in the media briefing. Others that have donated include; Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Equity Bank, General Motors East Africa, Israel Embassy, Konza Technopolis, IBM Research, Samsung, Kenya Commercial Bank, Cooperative Bank, National Bank, I Choose Life, Uber and ADMI are among the partners of the Nairobi Innovation Week 2016.
It has been confirmed that three Cabinet Secretaries, 2 Principal Secretaries, The World Bank Country Director, One Ambassador, Five international guests, five regional guests, 22 local CEOs, Country Directors and Managing Directors, 5 VC’s from partner Universities,6 high schools and 100 exhibitors will be In attendance.
Innovation Week goes a long way in helping students turn their ideas and research work into viable commercial projects and business entities. The University of Nairobi is committed to helping students become job creators through funding of start-ups.
