The University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter M. F. Mbithi urged the First Years, Class of 2016/2017 to follow their dreams, urging them that they are not sons of a lesser God.
The University of Nairobi opened its doors to the 2015 KCSE Candidates on September, 5, 2016 as approximately five thousand students from various secondary schools in the country trooped to join the premier University in the country.
The first lot of students has been admitted by four colleges that make up the University of Nairobi; the second lot will be admitted in January, 2017. The Colleges that admitted students are: the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, the College of Architecture and Engineering, the College of Biological and Physical Science and the College of Health Sciences. The other two colleges ; the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the College of Education and External Studies will admit students in January, 2017.
In his address to the Freshmen, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the students for having been admitted to the premier University in East and Central Africa. “You are all here on merit”, said the Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Mbithi as well urged students to dream big and to follow their dreams. They have various opportunities before them and hence should choose wisely as indeed choices have consequences.
The freshmen were cautioned on; keeping bad company that destroys good morals, dressing modestly, being environment friendly, safety while in campus and exploring the various opportunities that University of Nairobi offers.
Earlier on, the students were addressed by various heads of section from the Central Department. The students were urged to make best use of university computing facilities, student health facilities, sports facilities, University library and bookstore among other facilities.
