The University of Siera Leone will soon collaborate with the University of Nairobi is areas of engineering and mining.
This was revealed when the University of Siera Leone , Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ekundayo J.D. Thompson paid a courtesy call on the University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi.
The two Vice-Chancellors discussed various issues relating to University operations, ranging from : performance contracting, strategic planning, webometrics ranking, university funding and advancement office, research uptake, student mentorship, curriculum development review, automation and high profile guests who have visited the university in the recent past.
Prof. Mbithi noted that the University have been able to perform well over the years because everything is based on performance. The University of Nairobi is the only government agency to have scored ‘Excellence’ rating in the performance contract.
The University has well improved in the webometrics ranking having been ranked position six in Africa in previous rankings. As at now, the University strategic plan is undergoing review to help the University position itself for greater achievements as the University of the future.
On the international front, the University has been host to high profile gusts, key among them being; Pope Francis, President Barack Obama, Prime Minister of India Norendra Modi, Prime Minister of Italy Matteo Renzi and our very own President Uhuru Kenyatta among others dignitaries.
Going forward, a Memorandum of Understanding will be agreed upon to allow the two universities to formalize the collaboration.
