University of Nairobi students visited young children who have been admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital, Cancer Ward on Saturday, 30, 2016.
As part of their corporate social responsibility, CSR, the students who are studying Public Relations together with their lecturer, Mr. Godfrey Irungu Njega, visited the children who are suffering from various forms of cancer.
The students were taken round by the Corporate Affairs Team, led by Lucas Ombogo. The students engaged the young children in singing, dancing, poems, and skits.
One of the nurses who accompanied the students during the ward rounds encouraged the Public Relations students to develop a close relationship with the children, get to know their parents and visit them frequently. “This is just the beginning, please continue coming regularly” said Mrs. Ndugu, a registered nurse at KNH Hospital.
Students who numbered roughly, 32 were as well encouraged to go for cancer screening. Prevention is better than cure.
Prof. Enos Njeru, Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, who was represented by Mr. Godfrey Irungu Njega, noted that the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta National Hospital have a long working relationships. The two institutions support each other’s training, research endeavours as well as supply of human capital. UoN Doctors serve at the health facility. The Principal as well urged the students to sensitize fellow students to go for screening.
The students contributed money that will be used to buy diapers for ailing children.
