Rattansi Educational Trust has given Kshs. 60 Million worth of scholarships to students from poor background to support their education endeavors. The donation was done today, December, 19, 2016 at the Vice Chancellors Boardroom.
Speaking during the donation of cheques to various private and private universities, the Chair of the Rattansi Education Trust, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, who also doubles up as the Chancellor, University of Nairobi, noted that each year, the Trust have increased their donations to support needy students in various universities across the country. Dr. Rattansi further observed that the students need compassion and support as they pursue their studies.
The Rattansi Education Trust, established some 60 years ago is celebrating their 60th anniversary by giving Kshs. 60 Million to support education of students from humble backgrounds. Dr. Rattansi pledged to increase the donations to support education of needy students as the investment climate improves.
On his part, Prof. Peter Mbithi, the University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, thanked Dr. Rattansi, for her support towards scholarship opportunities to students, fundraising, and promoting the University of Nairobi brand image.
Prof. Godfrey Muriuki, thanked the Chancellor, for having supported close to 20,000 students over the last 12 years. He thanked the founders of the Rattansi Education Trust for the good work they are doing in supporting education in Kenya. He noted that they founders have set a good example, that other Kenyans can emulate. To date, they have donated Kshs. 154 Million towards supporting needy students get University Education. More than 50 institutions have benefitted from the Rattansi Bursary awards.
