Chinese XinYu University

The University of Nairobi and XinYu University from China have entered into discussions on possible ways of collaboration in areas of new energy engineering, commonly known as solar energy.

Speaking during the courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor, Shi Ke, the President,  Xinyu University noted that they are keen to collaborate with the University of Nairobi to strengthen academic output and commercialization of research products. 

On his part, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi welcomed the initiative to work together. He noted that the University of Nairobi have in the recent past engaged Chinese nationals on various endeavours, key among them being: construction of University of Nairobi Towers, establishment of the Confucius Institute, cultural and exchange programs. He noted that the University is ready to engage XinYu University in staff and student exchange programs. Prof. Mbithi expressed the desire to have the University operate entirely on solar energy.

Established in 1985, XinYu University, specializes in new energy science and engineering courses. It draws students from across the world and more specifically from Africa. The University has developed close working relationships with photovoltaic companies and gives students an opportunity to have industrial attachments and internships.

Also present during the meeting were Prof. Lucy Irungu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Production and Extension and Prod. Peter Ngau, Principal College of Architecture and Engineering.
