Rotaract gives sponsorship to six students

Some six students from the University of Nairobi have been selected to benefit from scholarship opportunities sponsored by the Rotaract Club of Nairobi.

Speaking during a meeting at the University, Dr. David Githanga, President of the Rotaract Club of Nairobi noted that in future, they will sponsor more students and encouraged bright, needy students to apply and benefit from the scholarship opportunities.

Prof. Godfrey Muriuki, the Special Students Advisor observed that only a few students applied for the scholarships. He therefore urged more students from humble backgrounds to take the opportunity in the future. He observed that only regular students who have excellent academic records and have not benefited from any other scholarships were selected. Students who pursue parallel degree programs were not eligible for the scholarships.

According to Johnson Kinyua, Director, University Advancement, student mobilization efforts like the use of posters, approaching students via Deans, Directors and College Registrars and through university events need to be embraced to create awareness of the scholarship opportunities.

Acting Registrar, Academic Division, Mr. B. M. Waweru, urged the Rotaract Club of Nairobi to borrow a leaf from HELB and consider sponsoring parallel students who are bright and needy for the scholarship opportunities. He observed that the Memorandum guiding the scholarships could be amended to allow such students to apply in the future.
