University of Nairobi signs MoU with Beijing University of Chemical Technology

University of Nairobi has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding, with one of the leading Chinese universities, Beijing University of Chemical Technology. The MoU was signed at the Vice-Chancellor’s Boardroom on May, 10, 2017.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Prof. Isaac Mbeche, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Student Affairs, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, welcomed the collaboration between the two universities saying that the University of Nairobi will benefit greatly from the Chinese leading University that has registered over 300 patents and has over 100 Million dollars   research budget.

Prof. Wang Fang, Chair of University Affairs Council, Beijing University of Chemical Technology said the Chinese university was established with the focus on chemical engineering and that  led to significant rise of the new Chinese nation in the last 60 years and the university has since diversified into other disciplines like medicine, pharmacy, arts, law and economics among others.

Beijing University of Chemical Technology has over 2000 faculty and staff and a student population of 22,000 students.

The Memorandum of Understanding that was signed today and witnessed by the University of Nairobi Legal Assistant, Mr. Collins Omondi, revolves around student and staff exchange programs, Chinese government scholarship programs, joint research and joint services.

Also in attendance were: Prof. Peter Ngau, Principal, College of Architecture and Engineering, Prof. Bernard Aduda, Principal, College of Biological and Physical Sciences, Prof. Jackson Mbuthia, Dean, School of Engineering, Prof. Guo Hong, Director, Confucius Institute, Mr. Johnson Kinyua, Director, University Advancement and Mr. John Orindi, Director, University Advancement.
