Prof. Magoha launches his book

Former University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George O. Magoha has unveiled his autobiography: “Tower of Transformational Leadership”.  The book was launched today, June, 14, 2017 at the Chandaria Auditorium, Main Campus.

Dr. Fred Matian’gi, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, MoEST, who was the  Chief Guest, described Prof. Magoha as a gold standard of leadership. He described the former University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor as a servant leader who has transformed virtually every institution he has worked with. Currently, Prof. Magoha is the Chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC.

Dr. Matiangi urged university managers and administrators in the education sector to borrow a leaf from Prof. Magoha, who is a well-known scholar in the medical fraternity. “We have a leadership crisis in Kenya. We have ruined our institutions because of incompetent leadership and tribalism. In our universities, non-teaching staff are being recruited along ethnic lines. This is hurting our universities”, noted Dr. Matian’gi. The Education Cabinet Secretary urged those in attendance to shun tribalism and embrace professionalism in their work ethic.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi congratulated Prof. Magoha for publishing his memoirs which he described as good both for personal and general readership. Quoting the University motto; ‘Unitate et Labore’, Prof. Mbithi urged those in attendance to embrace team spirit in order to achieve success in their endeavors.

Prof. Magoha, the book author, took the opportunity to recognize those who have mentored him to great success, among them former University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellors: Prof. Francis Gichaga, Prof. Crispus Kiamba, among others. He also urged University administrators to look for those who have good work ethics and a track record of performance for positions of leadership.

Other notable speakers at the function were Prof. PLO Lumumba , Director, Kenya School of Law and Prof. Patricia Kameri-Mbote, former Dean, School of Law.

The book, published by East African Publishers is currently retailing at the University of Nairobi Bookshop at the cost of Kshs. 2,000.
