Tana River Gornor seeks UoN assistance

The Tana River Governor, Governor (Mjr Rtd) Dhadho Godhana has sought partnership with the University of Nairobi in tackling the challenges facing his county. Such challenges include poverty, environmental degradation and food security. 

The meeting took place at the Vice-Chancellors boardroom on January, 9, 2018.

Speaking during the courtesy call, Tana River Governor (Mjr Rtd) Godhana stressed the importance of developing the capacity of county staff to help in better management of the county resources which in turn will help in alleviating poverty, which is a major challenge in the region. Environmental degradation and food security are among other challenges that need to be addressed. 

University of Nairobi Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Student Affairs, Prof. Isaac Mbeche, observed that the University is blessed with abundance of knowledge resources that could be of great benefit to the people of Tana River. The university can work together with the county to develop staff, offer consultancies on environment, agriculture among others sectors and help the county in overcoming the challenges of poverty.  

Since the introduction of the County Government, the University of Nairobi has been at the forefront in training and offering consultancy to the various counties in the republic.  The University has well established satellite campuses in some counties to cater for students who are thirsty for knowledge in the far flung areas.

The University of Nairobi remains the leading institution of higher learning in the region. UoN leads in producing holistic graduates and has been ranked at position 300 globally in the employability of its graduates.  

Also present in the meeting were Prof. Isaac Mbeche, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Student Affairs, Prof. Bernard Aduda, Principal, College of Biological and Physical Sciences, Mr. John Orindi, Director, Corporate Affairs and Mr. Johnson Kinyua, Director, University Advancement.
