University of Nairobi CUE Audit.

The University of Nairobi is undergoing institutional audit by the Commission of University Education, CUE. The five year audit by the regulator is to ensure that the University is adhering to the quality standards. The institutional quality audit commenced on March 5, 2018.

Leading the nine-member team from CUE is Prof. James Kiprop Tuitoek ,  a former Vice-Chancellor of Egerton University.

Among other things, the Commission challenged the University to establish its brand as either a teaching, research or an entrepreneurial university. Like other top universities worldwide, this would help the university as it matches towards world class excellence.   The purpose of the audit, it was revealed, was to confirm that the University is compliant with the standards. The commission will also point out areas of improvement to help the university improve the quality of its services.

University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi welcomed the team and assured them of availing all the evidence and information required. Prof. Mbithi observed that the University has embraced technology to addresses the major challenges facing the University, especially with the establishment of online, distance and e-learning ( ODEL) campus.  He also revealed that the University is a research powerhouse and has established collaborations and partnerships and is always benchmarking with other leading universities across the globe

On the first day of the audit, various University top managers made presentations covering University Governance, Institutional Resources, Academic Matters and Academic Integrity Standards. Other activities during the week will include interviews with students, Administrative and Academic Staff, Alumni and Stakeholders, University Council and the Chancellor. The team will also undertake an inspection of facilities and conclude with an exit report.

The management took the opportunity to point out various achievements the University has made in the recent past like launching a satellite into space, hosting international conferences like Nairobi Innovation Week, hosting various dignitaries like Jack Ma, CEO, Alibaba Group of Companies. Ranking well in webometrics and being rated highly in the graduate employability index and scooping the second runners up prize in the Federation of Kenya Employers ( FKE) of the year award in 2017.
