UNSA Student elections

The newly elected University of Nairobi Student Association (UNSA) leaders were presented to the University Management led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi. The meeting took place today, April, 16, 2018 at the University Towers.

Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Mbithi thanked the students for conducting themselves responsibly during the electioneering period and eventually emerging victorious in the student elections. He congratulated the winners and thanked everyone who participated in the elections even if they didn’t  emerge victorious.

“This is a new dispensation. I call upon all of you to a new leadership period. Leadership to serve the great University of Nairobi. This is a great university, the best in the country and in the region. We are among the best in the continent and a world class university. We attract the best students and the best professors. I look forward to working with you as we serve the great students of this great university”, he said. Prof. Mbithi as well pleaded with the student leaders to work closely with students to ensure that the activities of the university doesn’t stop. Teaching, learning and research must continue despite the challenges the university face.

Formerly, the student’s body was represented by SONU (Students Organization of Nairobi University), the name has since changed to UNSA and this is the first elections after the constitution was changed. The students’ Council Chairman Mr. Antony Manyara who won the elections.

Anthony Manyara, the new UNSA Chair, took the opportunity to thank the people who voted him into office. He promised to create a close working relationship between the students and the university administration.   He noted that together with the incoming leadership, they’ll work to address the challenges that the students encounter.

Going forward, the new leaders will work on a memorandum of understanding, MoU, that they will present to the University management led by the Vice-Chancellor for immediate action. Together with the student leadership, the University management will work on dignity and image that befits a great university like the University of Nairobi.
