UoN to Establish Nyandarua University College as CUE Evaluation Commences

The Vice Chancellor (Ag) of the University of Nairobi, Prof. Margaret Hutchinson, visited the upcoming Nyandarua University College, on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, to support the commencement of its technical evaluation by the Commission for University Education (CUE). The evaluation process marks a critical step toward the institution receiving a Letter of Interim Authority, which will allow it to start offering degree programs and becoming a constituent college of the University of Nairobi.

The event, held at the college’s premises, was graced by H.E (Dr.) Moses Kiarie Badilisha, the Governor of Nyandarua County, Deputy Governor, H.E Mathara Mwangi, County Executive Committee Member for Education, Hon. Agnes Njunji and other County Officers. Also present was the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof Ayub Gitau, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof Moses Nyang’ito, Dean, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Prof James Njihia, Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof Jeremiah Kalai and other senior university officers.

Speaking at the launch of the exercise, Prof. Hutchinson emphasized the University of Nairobi's commitment to extending its academic excellence to Nyandarua County. “The University of Nairobi is bringing a globally competitive university to Nyandarua County. This will transform lives by providing access to world-class education, fostering innovation, and contributing to the socio-economic growth of the region,” she remarked.

H.E Governor Badilisha who expressed optimism about the transformation the institution would bring to the region, lauded the collaboration between the University of Nairobi and Nyandarua County, highlighting the immense potential of the university to spur development in the region. “This initiative will empower our youth with skills and knowledge, making Nyandarua a hub for academic and professional excellence,” he said.

The technical evaluation by the CUE is a rigorous process that ensures the readiness of the institution to meet the standards required for offering higher education programs. Prof. Hutchinson underscored the importance of this milestone, stating that it aligns with the University of Nairobi’s vision to expand access to quality education across Kenya.
