University of Nairobi Hosts 71st Graduation Ceremony with New Leadership
The University of Nairobi (UoN) held its 71st Graduation Ceremony on September 20, 2024, marking a significant milestone with new leadership at the helm. This year's event was the first presided over by UoN's newly appointed Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Verkooijen, and the Vice Chancellor (Ag), Prof. Margaret Hutchinson. Prof. Verkooijen was officially robed in his role as Chancellor, symbolizing his formal induction into the university community and witnessed by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon Julius Ogamba.
With the theme “Empowering the World with Adaptive and Innovative Graduands,” the ceremony celebrated the spirit of resilience, adaptability, and forward-thinking among this year’s graduates. The theme aligns with UoN’s commitment to fostering a generation of leaders and innovators ready to meet the dynamic challenges of a globalized world.
In her inaugural address as Vice Chancellor (Ag), Prof. Hutchinson expressed pride in the achievements of the graduating class and acknowledged the collective efforts of the university’s faculty, staff, and students. She emphasized the importance of innovation and adaptability, particularly in an era of rapid technological advancements and social change.
The ceremony drew a large gathering of family members, friends, university staff, and dignitaries, all united in celebrating the graduates' academic accomplishments.
