The agreement aims to promote groundbreaking research, enhance innovation, and develop practical solutions, aligning with the Chancellor’s Big 5 Agenda, which focuses on addressing pressing challenges through interdisciplinary research and technology.
Present at the ceremony was the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Ag), Research, Innovation and Enterprise, Prof Francis Mulaa and the Director of Legal and Corporate Board Services, CS Collins Omondi
In her remarks, Prof Hutchinson underscored the significance of this collaboration, noting that it builds a strong foundation for future partnerships between the two institutions. She expressed enthusiasm about the growth seen in joint initiatives over recent years and emphasized that formalizing this partnership will open doors to new avenues for student and faculty engagement. “DTU's leadership in innovation and its impressive record of spin-offs will serve as an inspirational model for UoN students and faculty aiming to drive impactful, sustainable solutions in Kenya and beyond,” she said.
DTU has established a reputation as a hub for pioneering innovation, fostering numerous successful startups and spin-offs that address challenges in technology, health, and the environment. With this collaboration, the University of Nairobi anticipates enhanced capacity for innovation-driven projects, hands-on training programs, and joint research opportunities. These initiatives will be instrumental in supporting the Chancellors’s Big 5 Agenda, strengthening the university's role in addressing national challenges, and positioning it as a leader in African innovation.
The partnership will also provide a platform for students and researchers to gain hands-on experience, exchange ideas, and collaborate on projects designed to address real-world challenges. This initiative marks a significant step toward creating a robust ecosystem that encourages academic-industrial synergy and promotes sustainable innovation.
