The Vice Chancellor, UoN Prof. Stephen Kiama hosted the Secretary General of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Prof.  Ernest Aryeetey who was on a fact finding mission to assess the progress of the Centers of Excellence in ARUA member Universities.

Prof. Aryeetey who is also the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, commended UoN efforts in providing an enabling framework to support the success of  its centers of excellence. Prof. Aryeetey also outlined ARUA’s strategic plan that seeks to among other things decentralize ARUA, map strategies to increase the number of PHD students at ARUA universities across various disciplines and to build capacities.

The Vice Chancellor on his part affirmed the universities commitment in growing a critical mass of knowledge solution oriented  researchers “UoN is more about people, our patners, our suppliers and patners whom we form linkages with” Said Prof. Kiama.  

Prof. Aryeetey visit comes as the alliance plans to hosts a joint EU forum with 18 Vice Chancellors from Member Universities in Cape Town to discuss opportunities for Research and innovation in Africa.
