New Appointments

Francis Mulaa, obtained his MSc in Chemistry, Specializing in Biochemistry from Donetsk
State University (USSR, and PhD in biochemistry at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife,
Nigeria. After post-doctoral training in molecular biology at University College London, and
German Centre for Biotechnology (GBF), Braunschweg, Germany, he turned his attention to
malaria and pioneered development of the gametocyte cell cycle of the malaria parasite
Plasmodium falciparum, their cultivation and purification of gametocytes through all their

He is widely published with over 100 research articles, book chapters and edited
books. In 1998 he won the International START Young Scientist Award for an international journal
published research paper (Global and Planetary Change Vol. 26 /1-3: 159-171), and was also a Lead
Author in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fourth Assessment Report that won the
Nobel Peace Prize for 2007.He has been involved in multi-disciplinary research projects, training,

Dr. Obimbo is a Clinical Scientist and a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Human Anatomy, University of Nairobi. He has a Ph.D in Human Anatomy degree  from the University of Nairobi and a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the University of California San Francisco, Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Sciences, California, USA.

Prof. Florence Oyieke has been appointed Ag. SWA Director.
