UoN Partners with Cyberpro Global to Establish Cyber Security Research Center
The University of Nairobi is proud to announce a significant partnership with Cyberpro Global, a leading cybersecurity company based in Nairobi, Kenya. This collaboration aims to establish a Cyber Security Research Center at the Department of Computing and Informatics, Chiromo Campus, University of Nairobi.
Today, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama, welcomed a delegation led by Peter Orifa, Executive Director of Cyberpro Global and John Mutunga, CEO of Cyberpro Global. The courtesy call also included Mr. Barak Granot, the Head of the Israeli Economic Mission to Nairobi, and Tanya Ogwel, the International Trade Manager for the Israeli Economic and Trade Mission to Nairobi.
During the visit, John Mutunga expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting its fruitful outcomes. He announced that from 23rd to 27th September, the University of Nairobi will host Cyberweek Africa, an event inspired by Cyberweek Tel Aviv. This prestigious event will bring together participants from industry, academia, government, and the private sector to discuss the latest trends and statistics in cybersecurity. The event has already attracted participants from around the globe, promising a comprehensive immersion into the world of cybersecurity.
Peter Orifa, Executive Director of Cyberpro Global, highlighted their partnership with the Israeli Government, mentioning that over 40 participants from Israel will attend the event. This collaboration underscores the strong international ties and commitment to advancing cybersecurity education and research.
Prof. Stephen Kiama expressed his pleasure in hosting the delegation and emphasized his vision for the Cyber Security Research Center to become a center of excellence for cybersecurity in Africa. He appreciated Cyberpro Global's commitment to offering comprehensive training across all faculties of the University, ensuring that students are equipped with essential cybersecurity skills. Prof. Kiama affirmed his full support for this initiative, recognizing its potential to significantly enhance the University's educational offerings.
Prof. Andrew Kahonge, Chairman of the Department of Computing and Informatics, provided an update on the progress of the center's establishment. He noted that the center is on track to be launched in the final quarter of the year. Furthermore, the center will facilitate an exchange program between the University of Tel Aviv and the University of Nairobi, fostering greater academic collaboration and knowledge sharing.
