Deal at Last 2017-2021 CBA Signed

The signing ceremony between Inter Public Universities Councils Consultative Forum (IPUCCF) and the three staff Unions; Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU), Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) and Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions and Hospital Workers (KUDHEIHA), was a culmination of intense negotiations between the parties. “This was a historic CBA that was signed without an industrial strike,” said Prof. Isaac Mbeche, Chairman, IPUCCF Joint Negotiations Committee.

Speaking during the celebrations, Mitsubishi Corporation Regional CEO, Yasuhiro, Doida, said that the key issue of any business is not to make money, but to have a significant contribution to the society. UoN Student designed Rada App launched

The app was launched at Taifa Hall, Main Campus on June 13, 2019 during Nairobi Innovation Week 2019.

Speaking during the app launch, University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, urged students to make use of the application that aims at helping them deal with issues like sexual health, mental health, drug abuse,   stress and depression, counselling issues among others.

The app development was supported by  : UNESCO, I Choose Life, among others.

Don’t Choose Jobs, Says Prof. George Magoha, CS, Education

“I am thankful to the President for allowing me to continue teaching at the University of Nairobi Medical School even as I serve as the Cabinet Secretary for Education. I didn’t stop teaching because I became a Cabinet Minister. Avoid choosing jobs. If you find any job, do it as it will open doors to greater opportunities,” he said. The former University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor also challenged the University to focus on postgraduate training as opposed to offering bachelor and diploma programmes.

“Everything you have in your textbooks are outcomes of research, universities that want to excel in innovations must lead in research,” he said.

Prof. Isaac Mbeche takes over as acting Vice-Chancellor

“I am leaving with my head high because in my tenure, the university has achieved a lot. Prof. Mbeche is not new to the university, he is part of my team and I am confident that he will deliver,” said Prof. Mbithi. “The University is safe under Prof. Mbeche. I call on all students and staff to accord him the necessary support.”

In his remarks, Prof. Mbeche extended a hand of appreciation to Prof. Mbithi saying that he has learnt a lot from him and that he will continue to consult and seek his (Prof. Mbithi’s) wisdom.

UNSA Leaders raise student issues with UoN Management

Speaking during a consultative meeting held on July 18, 2019 at the Chandaria Auditorium, University of Nairobi Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi promised to look into the issue of stocking library books, especially for Mombasa Campus. The Chancellor took the opportunity to congratulate the new UNSA leadership and took the opportunity to present a bouquet of flowers to UNSA President. “You have a heavier burden of responsibility. You must elevate yourself to fight for honour. As the good book says, be motivated by whatever is true, whatever is honest, whatever is lovely and of good report.
